90% of Egyptian enterprises are micro, small, and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs), which contribute to approximately 75% of employment. The Egyptian Government has made the promotion of MSMEs one of its core policies and has established the Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Development Agency (MSMEDA) as a national institution to provide financial and non-financial support to MSMEs. In particular, non-financial support to the manufacturing sector is positioned as one of the priority sectors for development. On the other hand, the share of MSMEs in the manufacturing sector is still less than 20%, and they require high-quality support to promote further growth in the future.

The project targets plastics processing and food processing in the manufacturing sector.
It also aims to increase the quality of non-financial support provided by the MSMEDA and relevant agencies and the business competitiveness of the target companies in the two governorates, Alexandria and Minia.
