The learning achievement in Laos is at the lowest level compared to other Southeast Asian countries, with particularly severe performance issues in mathematics. In response to this challenge, the Ministry of Education and Sports in Laos has prioritized the enhancement of teacher capacity for children's learning achievement including mathematics in its "Education and Sports Sector Development Plan 2021-2025." This project supports the capacity building of teachers at eight teacher training colleges (TTCs) in Laos, as well as the strengthening of teaching skills for in-service teachers using the new curriculum. The goal is to improve learning achievement in mathematics in primary education by enhancing math teaching skills in the targeted TTC regions, increasing the number of teachers who promote active learning, and boosting student motivation to learn.
