The World Bank is supporting Ukraine, particularly Ukrenergo, with the funding from the Global Facility for Disaster Reduction and Recovery (GFDRR), in mitigating disaster risks and enhancing the resilience of its power transmission infrastructure. Ukraine's electricity sector faces challenges from severe weather events, outdated infrastructure, and the impact of Russia's invasion. Ukrenergo requires modern tools for effective disaster response and infrastructure management. The project included a study trip to Japan as part of capacity-building activities, following online training provided in 2021 by Kansai Electric Power Company. This trip aimed to help Ukrenergo, the Ministry of Energy, and key energy companies learn from Japan's experiences in managing natural hazards and climate risks. PADECO’s role involved organizing and participating in the trip, arranging meetings with key Japanese energy agencies and companies including Ministry of Finance, Ministry of Economy, Trade and Industry (METI), Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO), and Kansai Electric Power Company (Kansai EP) among others including manufacturing companies, and visiting critical facilities like the Fukushima Hydrogen Energy Research Field. PADECO was responsible for arranging meetings, managing logistics, and preparing detailed trip documentation. The study trip will enhance the capacity of Ukrainian energy stakeholders to improve the resilience of their power systems.
