Papua New Guinea (PNG) had increased the net enrollment rate for its basic education due to the expansion of schools and the implementation of the free education policy. On the other hand, the low academic achievement of students has become a problem, and the quality of teachers is identified as one of the factors contributing to this. Particularly, the current teacher training programs have not reflected the new curriculum. Therefore, it is difficult to implement consistent lessons from the teacher training course for the primary school level. In response, this project develops drafts of common teaching materials and instructional materials for the entire country, conducts workshops for instructors at teacher training colleges, and strengthen the capacity of the Ministry of Higher Education to develop teaching materials. In addition, through capacity building of counterparts, the project will contribute to the development of human resources in PNG for the next textbook revision.
