There is a movement in Africa towards accerelated regional integration. Toward this end, operationalizing OSBPs is considered as a high continental priority. The objective of this project was to produce the 2nd edition of the OSBP Sourcebook in English and French.
PADECO conducted intensive research and data collection on the current status, challenges, lessons learned, and best practices of implementation of OSBPs, from the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD), regional economic communities, and development partners, and analyzed various procedural, legal, technical, ICT, financial, economic, and social aspects of OSBPs.
PADECO arranged and coordinated regional technical workshops (with about 50 participants each) in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire, and Pretoria, South Africa, and one validation workshop (with about 150 participants) in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to consult with stakeholders (e.g., government agencies and development partners across Africa) on revisions of the text, thereby ensuring wide “ownership” of the final product. PADECO facilitated the workshops smoothly by providing high-level technical inputs and made all necessary revision in text, tables, and diagrams based on comments of the participants before, during, and after the workshops. A French translation of the English documents was prepared and the workshops were held in both English and French. The finished Sourcebook was presented at the Sixth Tokyo International Conference on African Development) TICAD VI in Kenya in August 2016.
