The objective of the project was to improve financial intermediation and enhance production and investments of SMEs in Bangladesh by providing medium- and long-term funds through participating financial institutions (PFIs) while also strengthening the capacity of these PFIs; ultimately, contributing to sound development of the country’s industry and economy and generation of employment. PADECO managed the project and provided training for Bangladesh Bank staff, PFI staff, and SME owners, and conducted promotional activities. Within the three-year contract period, more than 500 loans amounting to USD 60 million were distributed, improving the economic performance of SMEs and employment conditions. The project was successfully completed as scheduled.
