The Transport and Transit Facilitation Program aimed to contribute to increasing trade and the strengthening of cooperation between and among countries of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) and the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) in general and between Cameroon and Nigeria in particular. To achieve this goal, the objective was to improve the efficiency of logistics chains and the living environment of populations along the Bamenda-Enugu Corridor by removing various constraints. The components to address these constraints included: (i) studies on rationalization and harmonization of norms, standards, vehicle size, and axle load limits between Nigeria in ECOWAS and Cameroon in ECCAS as well as studies on legal status of joint border posts; (ii) concessions to manage and operate a planned joint border post in Nigeria at Mfum (including carrying out feasibility studies and preliminary designs); (iii) training of border officers (e.g., immigration, customs, police, security, drug enforcement officers) on the concept, management, and operation of the joint border post; (v) sensitization and awareness campaigns for HIV/AIDS mitigation along the corridor; and (vi) sensitization and awareness campaigns on road safety and accident prevention along the corridor. PADECO assisted the ECOWAS Commission in conducting and procuring services to carry out these components.
