Study on Refugee Hosting Communities in the West Nile Sub-Region of Uganda

Country・Area
Uganda
Uganda has been accepting refugees and asylum seekers from its conflict-affected neighbouring countries. About 90% of refugees from South Sudan are registered in the West Nile Sub-Region in Northern Uganda. The number of refugees increased dramatically in 2013 due to an armed conflict in Juba, South Sudan’s capital. Uganda’s refugee policies are development-oriented; refugees reside in government-allocated settlements have access to infrastructure and services in host communities and conversely, Ugandan nationals have access to facilities in the settlements. The influx of refugees created an additional burden on public services in the region. This study was conducted to grasp the assistance needs to support host communities in the region.
