The Dhaka Metropolitan Area and Chittagong District are the two largest cities in Bangladesh, located in the Himalayan region which is prone to frequent earthquakes. Many buildings in Dhaka and Chittagong do not comply with the Bangladesh National Building Code (BNBC). This has made the cities vulnerable to earthquakes and other natural disasters. The objective of the Project is to build the capacity of the Bangladesh Bank to provide assistance to Participating Financial Institutions (PFIs) in order to manage Two-Step Loans (TSL) for the field of building safety for public buildings, thereby contributing to disaster prevention in urban cities.
