In Nepal, enrollment rate at basic education has improved significantly, yet issues such as regional or ethnic disparities in access and learning achievement remain. Particularly urgent is the improvement of basic mathematics skills. In response to the challenges of enhancing the quality of school education in Nepal, the Project for Improving the Quality of School Education in Nepal was initiated. This comprehensive initiative was launched to directly address foundational mathematics proficiency among primary school students in Grades 1-3. The three outputs include: the development and revision of Student Learning Material, teacher's Guides and self-learning materials for Grades 1-3 mathematics, the development of a strategy to support Grades 1-3 students in learning mathematics in pilot local government schools, and the strengthening of local government support for schools, communities, and students’ families in promoting early grade mathematics.
