The start-up ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean has been revitalized, showing rapid growth, with the investment in start-ups reaching US$4.6 billion in 2019 compared to US$500 million in 2016. Although Japanese start-ups are expected to participate in this fast-growing start-up ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean, the interest in the region is relatively low compared to other regions and, thus, there is a need for start-ups that are interested in the region or have technologies that could potentially contribute to solving social issues facing Latin America and the Caribbean.

In this project, PADECO surveyed following issues: 1) social issues in Latin America and the Caribbean that require innovative solution and technologies, as well as 2) trends in start-ups and the ecosystem surrounding the start-ups, and 3) identifies Japanese companies (start-ups and start-up companies) that can contribute to solving social issues identified through this survey. After identifying companies with a start-up mindset, the support for their expansion into the Latin America and Caribbean region is implemented.
