The southern coast of Iran, an area known for its oil and gas industries, harbors important natural ecosystems which provide the necessary habitats for marine life and seabirds; however, the coastal environment has been adversely affected by issues such as marine pollution, soil erosion, oil spills, wastewater contamination, increases in water temperature and salinity, red tide, mass mortality of aquatic life, biodiversity decline and habitat destruction. Under these circumstances, this project to develop a master plan for marine environmental conservation was urgently performed.
