Science Teacher Education Project (STEPSAM2)

This project strengthened the capacity of teacher training institutes in science education, and improved scientific knowledge and the skills of teacher trainers and teachers in service. Following a baseline survey that identified the problems of science education in Cambodia from various viewpoints, the project introduced (i) "inquiry-based science lessons" to enhance scientific thinking skills, and (ii) "lesson studies" to promote in-house training, so that teacher trainers and teachers in science subjects could improve their professional ability. The project was commended by MoEYS as a model of harmonization among relevant projects and program in science education in Cambodia. After the project, MoEYS and relevant development partners promoted inquiry-based lessons and lesson studies, and disseminated the project results through their programs.
