Country・Area Colombia
Colombia’s zones non-interconnected to the national electricity grid have been situated in areas with some of the lowest human development indices in the country. The improvement of electricity service quality will have resulted in better living conditions in these zones, with consequent positive effects including creation of opportunities for new productive activities, reduction in incentives to migrate to urban areas, and the reinforcement of security in zones that were previously under the control of illegal groups. In order to assist the improvement and expansion of electrical energy supply services in the non-interconnected zones of the following municipalities: Nuquí, Bahía Solano, and Bajo Baudo, the following activities were performed: a. Collection of baseline information regarding the existing infrastructure; b. Evaluation of the current systems of generation, transmission, distribution, and commercialization of energy (Technical, economic, and financial); c. Design of infrastructure to organize the electricity systems; d. Assessment of environmental and social aspects; e. Socioeconomic analysis; f. Institutional evaluation and preparation of an operative management model; and g. Preparation of a case study of counterpart experience in Bahía Cupica (a town in the focal area).
