Rapid urbanization and motorization has created heavy congestion in many expressways in the Greater Metropolitan Tehran area. The Municipality of Tehran has a long-term developed plan of subway networks, several lines of which are already serving the most populated areas of the town. To supplement the subway network, the Municipality also has a plan to construct so called “LRT” lines. This study was to see the feasibility of proposed LRT line 804 with 17km of length, a component of the LRT networks to be provided in the very long-term, connecting north-west area of the Metropolis with the south-west area of the Metropolis. The study components were demand forecast, route and structure planning, train operation planning, system planning, rolling stock and rolling stock depot planning, electric facility planning, environmental impact assessment, cost estimate, economic and financial analysis, and train operation planning.
