In the Latin American region, although the Food Value Chain (FVC) has been built and strengthened to expand the exports of agricultural products benefiting from the abundant agricultural products, the region has still issues to improve the FVC at each stage of production, processing, distribution, and consumption. Japan regards this region of a 630 million population as a stable and high-growth food market and promotes establishment and strengthening of FVC by public-private partnerships. Lack of information on local technical needs, business opportunities, promising local business partners, and business practices has hindered business development by Japanese companies in spite of their advanced technologies, products and services that could contribute to the construction and strengthening of FVC in the region.

Under such circumstances, the project conducted a data collection survey to grasp the local needs and issues for strengthening FVC in the target 5 countries and to identify the seeds including Japanese technologies and know-how that could contribute to strengthening FVC in those countries. Also, the project organized the seminars to conduct the business matching and information sharing with the local public institutions and the local companies that are interested in formulating business relationships with Japanese companies, which are also seeking business development in the food and agricultural industry in Latin America.
