Country・Area India
India has the world’s largest malnourished population at 251.5 million and it is reported that half of Indian infants are chronically malnourished. Against this backdrop, this Feasibility Study (F/S) aims to develop and conduct marketing of nutritional supplements such as RUSF (Ready-to-Use Supplementary Food) and therapeutic food such as Ready-to-Use Therapeutic Food (RUTF) for children suffering from severe and moderate acute malnutrition, as well as pregnant women and lactating mothers. These nutritional products are potentially highly effective for tackling malnutrition in India. The F/S will be conducted in Maharashtra, where a large population is malnourished, and the production and sales will target BOP populations in urban, rural and slum areas. The goal is to not only reduce cost by utilizing local resources, but also to create a socially and economically effective business model, including income and employment generation, as well as contributing to capacity development.
