In the People’s Republic of Bangladesh, most of the national land is classified into tropical monsoon climate areas. Bangladesh is situated in one of the world's largest delta regions, formed by the Ganges river and is prone to frequent river floods and cyclones. These natural hazards have posed significant challenges for Bangladesh in managing such disasters.

Many residents facing poverty often borrow money from friends, neighbors, micro-insurance organizations, and informal lenders when they encounter large cyclones. However, this tends to be insufficient and insecure for them to rebuild their lives. PKSF (Palli Karma Sahayak Foundation) is an operational organization responsible for inclusive finance through its partner microfinance institutions. PKSF has been addressing capacity building for risks arising from natural disasters and climate change and their impact on the residents. To enhance their effectiveness, improvements in their expertise and coordination skills are being sought.

Within this project, the sites are chosen in the southern/coastal area of Bangladesh, which is prone to cyclones. The consultants' research proposes a reimbursement service for the social reconstruction of the residents to alleviate risks caused by climate change among those facing poverty.

This project aims to develop and integrate financial/non-financial services, improve related policies and legal systems, and build the capacity of counterparts to deliver micro-insurance services to mitigate risks arising from climate change. Its focus is also on innovating new mechanisms for the delivery of financial/non-financial services to enhance service usage.
