The State of Kuwait has been suffering from red tide events and mass mortality of fish in the vicinity of the Kuwait Bay, and Environment Public Authority (EPA) of the State of Kuwait is leading efforts to improve the marine environment. Accordingly, based on the proposition issued by the Former Minister, Takeo Hiranuma, of METI on December 2002 to implement an “Initiative for Japan-Kuwait Cooperation on Environmental Issues and Technology Transfer”, a project sponsored by Japan was to be launched to support environmental efforts to cleanup Kuwait Bay. Following this initiative, the present model project aimed to aid the efforts to improve the marine environment in the State of Kuwait through Tidal Flat Rehabilitation Project, Marine Environment Monitoring Project, and Technology Transfer Project.
