Since the private sector in Ghana is dominated by a large number of micro, small, and medium-scale enterprises (MSMEs), the promotion of MSMEs is important to facilitate the sustainable growth of the country’s economy. A National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) was established, and it manages Business Advisory Centres (BACs) to support the development of MSMEs developments by delivering Business Development Services (BDSs). For further capacity development of NBSSI and BACs, the Project for Formulating a Strategic Model for Quality/Productivity Improvement through Strengthening BDSs for MSMEs (Phase 1) was implemented. With positive results demonstrated in Phase 1, this follow-on Project was been designed to support the dissemination of new BDSs including Enterprise Diagnosis and kaizen (continuous improvement) methodology in NBSSI to enhance the capacity of NBSSI in its BDS provision and facilitation, as well as to contribute to the improvement of the quality and productivity of MSMEs. The workflow and basic kaizen methodology was introduced in to pilot BACs in three new target regions, Brong Ahafo, the Central, and the Northern Region; advanced kaizen techniques were was also introduced in BACs in the Ashanti Region.
