The Uzbekistan-Japan Center for Human Development (UJC) was established following an agreement between the Governments of Uzbekistan and Japan in October 2000. Over the last decade, JICA has provided technical assistance and the UJC has developed and provided business courses for businesspersons in the country. The project has strengthened the institutional and financial framework of the UJC to assure more sustainable operations of the business course training programs. More broadly, the project has contributed to human resources development of the small and medium enterprise sector of Uzbekistan in preparation for market-oriented economic reform. PADECO’s role in the project included the planning and implementation of business courses as well as assisting structural reforms for towards locally sustainable operation of the center.
