Country・Area Ghana
The promotion and development of micro, small, and medium scale enterprises (MSMEs) is important for the national and economic development of Ghana. Accordingly, the National Board for Small Scale Industries (NBSSI) has established Business Advisory Centers (BACs) to support MSMEs by providing and facilitating Business Development Services (BDS). To respond to the needs of the MSMEs, it was further necessary to enhance the capacity of BAC staff. In view of this background, NBSSI requested the Government of Japan to implement a project to strengthen the capacity of BAC by introducing kaizen (continuous improvement) methods in Ashanti Region as a pilot region. To fulfill this objective, the project aimed at achieving the following outcomes: (i) development of the capacity of the NBSSI Ashanti Regional Office to continuously enhance the capacities of BACs to provide and facilitate BDS; (ii) enhancement of the capacity of BAC staff in Ashanti Region to provide and facilitate BDS including kaizen-related ones; and (iii) preparation of tools to be utilized in the application of the strategic model to the rest of the country.
