PADECO assists to register a World Heritage in India.

2016/07/25Press release

The State of Sikkim is located in the Eastern Himalayas and has rich biodiversity and tourism potential. The Department of Forests, Environment and Wildlife Management (DFEWM) of the Government of Sikkim launched a ten-year initiative in collaboration with JICA through the Sikkim Biodiversity Conservation and Forest Management Program to strengthen the management of natural resources and alleviate poverty in Sikkim through participatory rehabilitation and management of degraded forests and enhancement of the livelihoods of the local people by promoting ecotourism.

In July 2016 the UNESCO World Heritage Committee adopted a resolution to include Khangchendzonga National Park on the World Heritage List  as the first mixed heritage site in India due at least in part to the work undertaken in the Sikkim Biodiversity Conservation and Forest Management Project, which commenced in March 2011.
